Internal Engine Damage
To determine if internal engine damage is causing no start condition, perform the following steps:
- Install the engine barring tool, refer to MBE 900 Service Manual (6SE9007), engine chapter- engine barring tool.
- Determine the severity of internal engine damage.
- If the engine rotates freely, check the MCM wiring harness; refer to "5.1 MCM Wiring Harness" .
- If the engine binds and will not rotate freely, replace crankshaft bearings and cylinder liners, refer to MBE 900 Service Manual (6SE9007), engine chapter-crankshaft or cylinder block.
Section 6.4.1
Internal Engine Damage Replacement
Perform the following steps for crankshaft bearings, and cylinder liner replacement:
- Replace the crankshaft bearings, refer to MBE 900 Service Manual (6SE9007), engine chapter-crankshaft.
- Replace the cylinder liners.
- Verify replacement of components; refer to "6.4.1.1 Test Engine with Replaced Components" .

Test Engine with Replaced Components
To determine if the new components resolved no start condition, perform the following steps:

To avoid injury before starting and running the engine, ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface, parking brake is set, and the wheels are blocked. |
- Attempt to start and run the engine, if the engine starts and runs, no further troubleshooting is required. Shut down the engine.
- If the engine fails to start or run, call Detroit Diesel Customer Support Center at 313-592-5800.
